We would beam with happiness whenever we see one growing.
For a few years, my mom and I would try to grow strawberries in our garden. We would get packets of seeds before the summer began and start planting them inside our home. Every once in a while, a few plants would pop up but they never last past the summer. So whenever we visit our local plant store, my mom and I would be on the lookout for strawberry plants to bring home.
We would wake up early in the morning during the weekends and go there right when they open, hoping to get the best plants. I never pick out the plants specifically because my mom was always better at picking them so I just tell her what I want. There were never a lot of strawberry plants and sometimes none, but when we found some, it would make our entire day and we couldn’t wait to bring them home.
My mom or I would take turns watering them especially on really hot days when the soil dried out quickly. We would beam with happiness whenever we see even one strawberry growing. We never get a lot of them before the summer ends, but when they become ripe enough, my mom would let me pick them. I’ll tell my mom to have some after washing them, but she always has 1 or 2, wanting to save them for me instead. It makes me value the fruits and veggies we grow at home more knowing how much time my mom takes to grow them even though she doesn’t eat much of it.
Thinking about the strawberries led me to make these Vegan Strawberry Cheesecake Dome Tarts. They do not take much time to make so let’s start baking!
